ROLE PURPOSE

The aim is to state the overall significance of the job from the organization’s perspective.

The role exists to provide technical leadership for the development, operation, governance, and continuous improvement of Elm’s backup, data recovery, storage, and file services environments. The role ensures the stability, resilience, and reliability of critical infrastructure services by strengthening backup and recovery capabilities, safeguarding data, improving operational governance, supporting disaster recovery readiness, and reducing operational risks associated with limited specialized resources, in alignment with Elm’s policies, procedures, information security standards, and business continuity objectives.

Key Accountabilities

Key Activities

1.  Backup & Data Recovery Leadership

•  Lead the technical planning, operation, and enhancement of backup and data recovery services across critical infrastructure environments.

•  Ensure backup and recovery activities are aligned with business continuity, data protection, and operational resilience requirements.

•  Drive improvements that strengthen backup reliability, service continuity, and recoverability of critical systems and data.

2.  Storage & File Services Operations

•  Lead the technical operation and support of storage platforms, file services, and related infrastructure components.

•  Ensure reliable availability, performance, capacity, and security of storage and file services across production environments.

•  Monitor storage utilization, growth trends, service health, and operational risks to support proactive planning and issue prevention.

3.  Disaster Recovery Readiness

•  Lead technical activities related to disaster recovery readiness for backup, storage, and critical infrastructure services.

•  Plan and support disaster recovery tests to validate recovery procedures, infrastructure dependencies, and service restoration capabilities.

•  Identify recovery gaps and recommend corrective actions to improve recovery readiness and reduce business continuity risks.

4.  Infrastructure Governance & Operational Control

•  Develop and maintain operational controls, procedures, standards, and documentation for backup, recovery, storage, and file services.

•  Improve governance over backup and storage operations through clear responsibilities, reporting, control checks, and escalation paths.

•  Ensure operational activities are executed in a controlled and consistent manner according to approved processes and standards.

5.  Service Stability & Performance Management

•  Monitor the stability, performance, and availability of backup, storage, recovery, and file services to prevent service disruption.

•  Analyze incidents, service degradation, recurring failures, and capacity-related issues to identify root causes and improvement actions.

•  Coordinate with infrastructure, application, database, and operations teams to resolve service-impacting issues efficiently.

6.  Platform Development & Improvement Initiatives

•  Lead technical workstreams and initiatives aimed at modernizing and improving backup, recovery, storage, and file services capabilities.

•  Assess requirements for new and existing systems to ensure appropriate backup, storage, recovery, and data protection coverage.

•  Contribute to technology refreshes, upgrades, baseline builds, health checks, and platform improvement activities.

7.  Risk Management & Data Protection

•  Identify and assess operational risks related to data loss, backup failure, storage capacity, recovery delays, and service unavailability.

•  Implement and recommend controls to protect data, reduce infrastructure risk, and strengthen recovery capabilities.

•  Ensure backup, storage, and file services support confidentiality, integrity, availability, and retention requirements.

8.  Technical Advisory & Stakeholder Coordination

•  Provide expert technical guidance to internal teams on backup, restore, storage, file services, and disaster recovery matters.

•  Coordinate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, database, application, service management, and business continuity stakeholders to support service needs.

•  Prepare technical reports, status updates, capacity insights, recovery readiness summaries, and operational recommendations for stakeholders.

9.  Policies, Processes & Procedures

•  Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

•  Comply with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.

10.  Information Security

•  Comply with all relevant information security practices and standards to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Academic and professional
qualifications

•  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.

•  Relevant professional certifications in backup technologies, storage platforms, disaster recovery, cloud infrastructure, IT service management, or information security are preferred.

Years and Nature of
Experience

•  7–10 years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure, backup and recovery, storage administration, file services, disaster recovery, or related technology operations.

•  Experience leading technical workstreams or providing senior technical guidance for backup, storage, recovery, and infrastructure service continuity.

•  Experience in managing critical infrastructure services, data protection controls, capacity planning, incident resolution, service monitoring, and operational governance.
