ROLE PURPOSE

The aim is to state the overall significance of the job from the organization’s perspective.

To support Elm’s Corporate Venture Capital activities by identifying, evaluating, and managing strategic investment opportunities that align with business objectives and innovation priorities. The role is responsible for investment analysis, due diligence, venture assessment, portfolio management support, stakeholder coordination, and market intelligence activities that contribute to generating strategic and financial value from startup investments and innovation ecosystems.

Key Activities

1. Investment Thesis & Market Analysis

• Develop investment theses focused on markets, technologies, and sectors of strategic relevance to Elm.
• Conduct market research and industry analysis to identify emerging opportunities and innovation trends.
• Assess technology, market, and competitive landscapes to support investment decisions.
• Provide insights and recommendations that guide investment strategy and opportunity targeting.

2. Opportunity Sourcing & Evaluation

• Identify and assess startup and venture investment opportunities aligned with investment objectives.
• Conduct preliminary screening and evaluation of potential investment targets.
• Analyze business models, product offerings, market potential, and growth prospects.
• Support the prioritization of investment opportunities based on strategic and commercial value.

3. Investment Case Development

• Prepare investment cases, business evaluations, and supporting materials for investment reviews and approvals.
• Develop financial models, investment assumptions, and strategic assessments.
• Support decision-making processes through structured investment recommendations.
• Ensure investment opportunities are documented and evaluated consistently.

4. Due Diligence & Risk Assessment

• Coordinate and support commercial, operational, financial, and technical due diligence activities.
• Assess risks, opportunities, dependencies, and growth potential associated with investment opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather information required for evaluations.
• Support investment negotiations through structured due diligence findings and recommendations.

5. Investment Execution & Transaction Support

• Work closely with Engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle to ensure design intent is translated accurately into the final product.
• Understand design-to-development workflows and communicate effectively with technical teams.
• Stay up to date with emerging AI-powered design tools and apply relevant technologies to improve design workflows and outcomes.
• Explore innovative approaches to improve user experience, design efficiency, and product quality.

6. Portfolio Company Management Support

• Support the management of relationships with portfolio companies to maximize strategic and financial value.
• Monitor portfolio company performance, milestones, and business developments.
• Coordinate engagement activities between portfolio companies and internal business stakeholders.
• Assist in identifying opportunities that strengthen collaboration and value creation.

7. Stakeholder Alignment & Ecosystem Engagement

• Collaborate with business units to ensure alignment before and after investment activities.
• Facilitate communication between startups, portfolio companies, and internal stakeholders.
• Support the development of strategic relationships within the startup ecosystem.
• Assist in positioning Elm as a preferred partner for entrepreneurial and innovation communities.

8. Portfolio Reporting & Investment Performance Monitoring

• Prepare performance reports, investment updates, and portfolio summaries for management and investment committees.
• Track portfolio performance indicators and investment outcomes.
• Monitor post-investment progress and highlight risks, opportunities, and improvement areas.
• Support continuous enhancement of portfolio management and reporting practices.

9. Policies, Processes & Procedures

• Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
• Comply with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.

10. Information Security

• Comply with all relevant information security practices and standards to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Academic and professional qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, or a related discipline.

Years and Nature of Experience

4–6 years of experience in Venture Capital, Corporate Venture Capital, Investment Analysis, Strategy, Corporate Development, Innovation, or related disciplines.
