ROLE PURPOSE

The aim is to state the overall significance of the job from the organization's perspective.

The role exists to execute software quality practices that support the delivery of high-quality software products in alignment with customer requirements, testing standards, and Elm's policies and procedures. The Senior Engineer contributes to software reliability by designing and executing test cases, identifying and documenting defects, coordinating with development teams, and providing accurate testing reports that support effective resolution, product quality, and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

Key Activities

1.  Test Design & Planning

  • Apply functional and non-functional testing of software applications in accordance with established test plans, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of test cases and test scripts using proper testing techniques.
  • Ensure test coverage reflects functional and non-functional requirements to support the delivery of high-quality software products.

2.  Test Execution

  • Execute test cases and test scripts accurately to validate software functionality, reliability, and compliance with requirements.
  • Prepare test data covering different scenarios and edge cases to support comprehensive testing.
  • Record test results and testing observations clearly to support issue resolution and quality assurance activities.

3.  Defect Identification & Reporting

  • Identify, document, and report software defects with clear descriptions, severity, impact, and steps to reproduce.
  • Capture expected and observed behavior, relevant screenshots, logs, and supporting evidence in the defect tracking system.
  • Prioritize reported defects based on severity, business impact, and project timelines.

4.  Defect Management & Retesting

  • Review and analyze reported defects to understand their nature, impact, and implications on software quality.
  • Work closely with development teams to reproduce reported defects in controlled environments and support timely resolution.
  • Perform retesting of resolved defects and validate fixes to ensure issues are effectively addressed.

5.  Test Documentation & Reporting

  • Create and maintain accurate test documentation, including test cases, test scripts, test data, and defect records.
  • Prepare testing reports, including test execution summaries, defect tracking reports, quality metrics, and testing status updates.
  • Provide timely and accurate updates on testing activities, progress, and outcomes to relevant stakeholders.

6.  Requirements & Quality Review Support

  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project managers to understand software requirements and specifications.
  • Participate in reviews, discussions, and meetings to provide insights and feedback on software quality.
  • Support the alignment of testing activities with customer requirements, project objectives, and quality expectations.

7.  Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to support effective testing, issue clarification, and defect resolution.
  • Communicate testing progress, test results, identified issues, and quality risks clearly to stakeholders.
  • Support knowledge sharing with internal teams to promote consistent quality practices and testing standards.

8.  Quality Improvement & Testing Practices

  • Identify opportunities to improve testing processes, test documentation, defect management, and reporting practices.
  • Apply established testing standards and proper quality techniques to strengthen software reliability and delivery outcomes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, testing efficiency, and stakeholder confidence.

9.  Policies, Processes & Procedures

  • Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Comply with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.

  • Comply with all relevant information security practices and standards to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Academic and professional qualifications

  • BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

Years and Nature of Experience

  • 2 - 4 years of relevant experience in a related industry.
